Ex Sanguitude
We took their land
Along the sword
Where shallow slow waters
Gold-panned native red blood
And still on this day murmur
Of how we gleaned their pines.
In the Merryland,
Mystic mauves of ancient smoke
Flow down--flow down and sting;
For blackfoot brave fled
On these virgin blue hills
And there too lost
The time of their pride,
And their lives.
Far west brown buff beast
Roamed bull grass range
While sand towers of the canyons
Spewed pillars of smoke words:
This history, etched along the trail of tears,
Puffed against the Great Spirit's dome--
They tell in silent corroboree
Of how we took their land along the sword,
Therewith sending erratic ravine rivers--
Virulent and Mal--
Seeping branch-low in the underbrush;
Forever cursing the New Native helix
Of the forked
Criminal Anglo Grab of Terra.
...somewhere under my brown rainbow, blue birds fly...and somewhere deeper in my DNA my cystosine, guinine, thymine, and adenine sieve our curse.
